Small Business Internet Strategy

Introduction

With times currently tough having an effective online presence is more critical than it has ever been. Many smaller organisations however, through lack of resources or know how, continue to think about their website as an add on tool for marketing rather than it being integral to their overall business strategy.

In terms of communicating with potential or existing customers your website is very likely to be the single most important tool in your marketing arsenal. Your website in itself however forms only part of your overall online strategy - albeit the most important one.

Having a well designed website is fantastic but if no-one ever finds it then it's highly unlikely that it will ever achieve much.  Similarly, a site that does attract traffic but that is hard to navigate or that introduces barriers to people buying your products or services may be equally ineffective.

If you haven't yet set up a website a period of reflection to consider your overall strategy is highly recommended.  It is likely to not only save you money by avoiding some of the pitfalls but it will also mean that you'll have a far greater chance of success.

If you already have a website an independent audit of your online offering can also pay dividends and generate ideas or suggest other approaches that you might not have considered.
