Email Marketing provides an effective means of staying in touch with customers and supporters.

Emails can alert your audience to promotions, events or special offers or keep supporters up to date with your activities.

For charities - online fundraising is no longer about having a donation button on your site.  Instead online fundraising is now very much about building relationships with potential donors and moving supporters up a ladder of engagement over time for which email marketing is an extremely important tool.

Whilst opt in email marketing can play an invaluable role in your marketing mix, renting lists can have mixed results and the trend appears to be that many companies are moving away from this approach.

To avoid being defined as spam you must limit messages to opt-in distributions only - ie only to people who have specifically signed up to receive communications from you.

Building dynamic, personalised and well designed email communications can be very effective and far cheaper than a traditional mailshot. You can additionally track how many emails are received, how many are opened and how many people click on links within the email.

These statistics can be extremely helpful in refining marketing messages.

Some email marketing tools offer grants to non-profit organisations.
