Career History
After graduating from York University in 1991 I moved to London to work in litigation support. I took up a position as litigation support manager at Baker & McKenzie, an international law firm, in 1996 where I was responsible for managing a knowledge / case management system for a major case in the High Court. This facilitated my initial move into IT development and, coinciding with the major emergence of the web, I also began to become involved with the internet and intranet development work.
I established my own company in 1997 offering services such as software and intranet development and general consultancy to clients including Sony Computer Entertainment Europe, Centaur Communications, Tite & Lewis (the correspondent law firm of PriceWaterhouseCoopers) and others.
In late 1999, whilst continuing to support my existing clients, I took up a role as a contractor at the new media wing of Publicis, the international advertising agency, where I worked as a senior web developer and analyst for approximately 18 months for a number of specialist industrial brands and other clients. It was at Publcis that my focus and interests began to shift more into online strategy.
In 2001 I moved to work as a contractor at the Department of Health where I remained until mid 2005. Initially responsible for the development of a number of core departmental intranet and knowledge management applications I significantly developed my role to work on a number of important public health initiatives for the Chief Medical Officer. Leaving software development in the last year or so at the Department, I worked as a business analyst on a number of important projects including a review of the role of technology in the handling of Parliamentary Questions across the Department. My remit also expanded considerably to include general consultancy, strategy development and business analysis.
Following a break in early 2005 in post tsunami Sri Lanka my outlook on life changed fairly dramatically and I decided to shift the focus of my career towards the not for profit sector. I left the Department of Health in mid 2005 and began to work with a number of charities many of whom I continue to support today.
I now work entirely on a freelance basis largely with a range of charity, small business and corporate clients. I regularly work with a number other freelance staff with complimentary skill sets in order to offer a highly professional service to my clients.
